Cambodia and Vietnam Commit to Finalizing Border Demarcation

Phnom Penh, July 13, 2024 – During a meeting at the Cambodian Parliament, National Assembly President Khun Sudary emphasized the significance of the border issue with Vietnam, reaffirming the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to successfully completing the border demarcation process.

The meeting, held with Vietnam’s head of state, Mr. To Lam, highlighted Cambodia's focus on the welfare of Vietnamese citizens residing in the country and the urgency of resolving the remaining border.

Deputy Spokesman of the National Assembly, Keo Piseth, reported that Mr. To Lam urged Cambodia to ensure the well-being of the Vietnamese community and expressed a desire for swift progress on the border demarcation efforts. In response, President Sudary noted that Cambodia's new government has established the Secretariat of Border Affairs to address uncertainties along the border with Vietnam.

"This commitment reflects the determination of Cambodia's institutions and government to ensure a successful demarcation process, transforming border areas into zones of peace and stability," she stated.

As of now, approximately 84% of the border between Cambodia and Vietnam has been demarcated, with around 16% remaining to be finalized through continued collaboration.
